Man Dead, Another Injured in Early-Morning Shooting Outside Queens Club

One man is dead and another has been injured in an early-morning shooting in Queens, police say.

The NYPD was alerted to shots fired at Club Dubai near Merrick Boulevard and 127th Avenue in Jamaica around 3:50 a.m. Wednesday, police said.

Authorities say the intended target, a 23-year-old man from Brooklyn, was tailed by a group of people inside a car as he left the club. As the victim approached 126th Street, an unknown gunman exited the backseat of the car and opened fire.

Arriving at the scene, officers found two men who had been shot.

Brooklyn man Chad Baldeo was shot in the chest, back and abdomen and died from his wounds. A second man ,a bystander who was putting flyers on his car, was shot in the ankle, and was taken to Jamaica Hospital. Police say he is expected to survive.

There were no arrests and the investigation was ongoing.

Lorna Smith, the club's owner, believes the shooting was gang-related, but denies that the conflict started inside the venue. She did confirm the victim was a club patron and says she handed security video to the authorities.
