FDNY Rescues Duckling From Grate While Concerned Locals Watch Over Distressed Mother Duck

A New York team effort saw a duckling rescued from a grate Monday.

Valerie Simon was walking six blocks away from Central Park when she spotted a mother duck and her duckling waddling along 116th Street.

She and others nearby tried to guide the pair away from traffic, however the baby duck fell into a sewer grate.

"As a few Good Samaritans protected the very upset momma, I ran to the [FDNY] to get help," she said in a Facebook post, where she also posted video of the rescue (watch above).

While the group helped stop traffic, FDNY Engine 58/Ladder 26 came to the duckling's rescue and was able to surface it back on the street, returning it to the Harlem Meer in Central Park.

"Another reason why I love New Yorkers," Simon said.
