Police say they've arrested a 16-year-old suspect in the stabbing death of a movie theater worker in Yonkers last weekend.
Yonkers police say Michael Pettiford was arrested Tuesday on a charge of second-degree murder. He's accused of stabbing 19-year-old Diaj Asanti Thomas in the lobby of the Ridge Hill movie theater on Fitzgerald Street shortly after midnight last Saturday, killing him.
Police say it appears Pettiford approached Thomas and began arguing with him, then grabbed Thomas' cellphone. The two fought, and Pettiford stabbed Thomas, then fled, according to police. A knife was recovered at the scene.
Thomas was taken to a local hospital, where he was declared dead.
Pettiford was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday and will be remanded back to Westchester County Jail until his next court appearance. It wasn't immediately clear if he had an attorney who could comment on the arrest.
