Human remains found in a black plastic bag off the Sprain Brook Parkway in Yonkers Tuesday night are those of a woman, police said.
Police got a 911 call around 5:35 p.m. Tuesday about a suspicious garbage bag. The body is believed to have been in the woods for a couple of weeks, police said. The woman, who had tattoos, has not been identified, police said.
The remains were turned over to the Westchester County medical examiner's office.
Retired NYPD sergeant John Doyle said he called police after a woman walking her dog told him she'd seen the bag near his property.
Detectives are investigating the death as a homicide.
