Elderly Couple Killed in Yonkers House Fire: Officials

An elderly couple was killed in an early morning blaze that ripped through a four-story wood frame home in Yonkers, fire officials say.

The three-alarm blaze broke out at about 11 p.m. at the dwelling on Hillcrest Avenue, according to the Yonkers Fire Department.

The house was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived and people were trapped inside, fire officials say.

Crews found the elderly couple unconscious on the second floor of the building. Both were taken to Jacobi Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

Two other people who were in the building were treated by EMS workers at the scene.

About 75 firefighters responded to the building.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
