Police are investigating a shooting and arson inside a Long Island home in which a man and two dogs were shot, one of the pets fatally, officials say.
Detectives are still investigating the home invasion at 116 Long Island Ave. in Yaphank. Police were initially called there at around 5:30 p.m.
No arrest has been made in the incident. The man was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
One of the shot dogs died and the other was taken to a local shelter, police said.
