The NYPD is investigating the death of a would-be car thief.

Police say 50-year-old Yaosse Agbokou died after being taken into custody after trying to steal a car in the Saint Albans neighborhood of Queens.

They say officers responding to a 911 call of a fight learned the owner of the car had caught Agbokou trying to drive away with the vehicle Saturday night. The car's owner managed to hold Agbokou until police arrived.

After officers took Agbokou into custody, police say the Queens man passed out. Agbokou was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The medical examiner's office ruled his death a homicide. The cause was compression of the neck.

Police didn't identify the car's owner. No charges have been filed.
