World War II Bomb Detonated at New Jersey Military Base

A World War II bomb was safely detonated after it was discovered on a college campus on Thursday

The ground shook as an explosives team detonated a World War II bomb near a military base in Wrightstown, New Jersey.

The unexploded ordnance was taken to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst after it was discovered on a college campus on Thursday. It was found at a construction site at Middlesex County College.

At the former Raritan Arsenal, the construction crew was warned in advance to be on the lookout for old ordnance. The search for ordnance has been an ongoing operation at this site and comes as no surprise to its residents.

The base says the 87th Civil Engineer Squadron Explosive Ordnance Disposal team determined this ordnance was too dangerous. The 500-pound bomb had no fuse, but appeared to be packed with deterioriated explosives, according to the Air Force.

The team safely blew it up at 11 p.m.
