Worker, 18, Crushed by Recycling Compactor in Brooklyn

A teenage worker has been crushed to death by a trash compactor at a private recycling plant in Brooklyn.

The accident happened at about 10:30 a.m. Saturday at a recycling plant in DUMBO.

Police say 18-year-old Luis Camarillo was working in the back of the truck when the truck's compactor came down and struck him in the chest. He was pronounced dead at Long Island College Hospital.

Police and the federal Occupational Health and Safety Administration are investigating the accident.

OSHA compliance officer Robert Stewarts tells the New York Post that he is reviewing surveillance video at the plant.
