Worker Hospitalized After Fall at WTC Site

A World Trade Center worker is in serious condition after falling at least 14 feet today during construction at the WTC site, an FDNY spokesman said.

The injured worker, 28-year old Jose Jerez of the Bronx, was on the fourth floor of One World Trade Center working on a concrete wall when he fell around 1:30 p.m., fire officials said.

Jerez was pulled from the hole by the Port Authority Police Department's Emergency Service Unit and he's in serious condition at Bellevue Hospital, officials said.

Fire officials said they had also responded to the scene but were not immediately given access to the fallen worker.

A Port Authority spokesman denies that firefighters were prohibited from the site.   Port Authority spokesman Steve Coleman said FDNY responders were "properly staged and properly admitted as needed."
