Worker Dies in Fall at Old Domino Sugar Factory: NYPD

A worker died after a two-story fall at the old Domino Sugar factory in Brooklyn on Friday morning, officials said.

Wilfredo Enriques fell from the sixth floor to the fourth floor while installing a facade at the Williamsburg construction site, according to the NYPD.

First responders transported the 59-year-old to Woodhull Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

It's not clear what caused the fall.

The sugar refinery, which dates back to the 1800s, was given landmark status in 20014 and is currently being converted to a multi-use development.

The company developing the property, Two Trees Management, said all work has stopped at the site and that it is working with the city to determine the cause of the fall.

"We are overwhelmed with grief by this tragic acccident and extend our deepest condolences to his family, loved ones and colleagues," the company said.

PG Products, Enriques' employer, said it would cooperate with Two Trees and the Department of Buildings to figure out how the accident happened.

"We are devastated by the loss of Wildredo Enriques, a dedicated employee and friend for the past decade," the company said in a statement. "We are fully cooperating with Two Trees and the DOB to understnad how this tragedy occurred."
