Mother, Daughter Shot While Getting in Car in NJ: Police

A 41-year-old mother and her 15-year-old daughter were both shot while getting into a vehicle in New Jersey Tuesday night in what police say appears to be a targeted shooting.

Authorities say the pair was getting into their car in Linden when they were approached by a man wearing a scarf wrapped around his face. The man opened fire, hitting the mother in the body and grazing the girl's face and hitting her wrist.

The man ran off after the shooting. The mother and daughter appeared to have driven off after the shooting. At some point the mother crashed the car into a utility pole a few blocks from the shooting scene.

The mother and daughter were both taken to University Hospital in Newark. The mother remains in critical condition; her daughter was treated and released.

No arrests have been made in the case.
