A 36-year-old Queens woman on her way to work Tuesday was attacked by a knife-wielding man who stabbed her repeatedly as she left her house, police said.
The woman, who family and neighbors said worked in the medical field, was in critical condition after she was stabbed seven times in her neck and the rest of her body at about 5 a.m. on 221st Street in Queens Village, a police source said.
A neighbor told NBC 4 New York that he rushed to help after he heard noises from the street.
"I heard her yelling and I could not believe it, because she made loud noise," said Wilner Nau. "Whoever was doing it, ran."
Chopper 4 showed a large amount of blood pooled in a driveway and trailing out to the street where police had taped off the crime scene.
The source said detectives are investigating robbery as a possible motive. A man wearing a hooded sweatshirt was seen running away.
