Wife Allegedly Sets House on Fire While Husband Sleeps

Authorities say a woman is accused of setting fire to her Rockland County home as her husband slept.

Sandra Sanichar, of Spring Valley, was arraigned on charges of arson and reckless endangerment on Wednesday. The 56-year-old woman allegedly set the blaze around 2:40 a.m. after arguing with her husband.

Detective Sgt. Jim Noble tells the Journal News she used gasoline to ignite a fire in an illegal garage apartment where her husband slept.

About 25 firefighters responded to the Madison Avenue home to find flames and smoke shooting from the rear. Sanichar's husband, Seeram, escaped the blaze unharmed.

Authorities say an open window likely saved his life.

Sandra Sanichar was released after posting $5,000 bail.

It wasn't immediately clear if she had a lawyer.
