Woman, 87, Dies After Car Submerges in Water on Long Island

Suffolk County police say marine and emergency response units responded to West Broadway in Port Jefferson around 6:45 a.m. Thursday after receiving a 911 call

An 87-year-old woman was found in a car submerged underwater near a Long Island boat ramp and homicide detectives are investigating the death.

Suffolk County police say Anne Murray, of Port Jefferson Station, was found by marine and emergency response units who responded to West Broadway in Port Jefferson around 6:45 a.m. Thursday after receiving a 911 call.      

She was inside a four-door Toyota Corolla submerged in the water.

Murray was taken to St. Charles Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

It wasn't known how the car ended up in the water. Police have not said why the death may be considered suspicious.
