Woman Admits Killing Baby, Dumping Body Into Recycling Container Outside Deli

After killing her baby, Maria Oliva Guaman-Guaman tossed her newborn baby's body into a recycling container outside a convenience store in the Village of Spring Valley, prosecutors said

A suburban New York woman who admitted strangling her newborn has pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

Rockland County District Attorney Thomas Zugibe announced the plea Monday by Maria Oliva Guaman-Guaman.

After killing her baby, she tossed his body into a recycling container outside a convenience store in the Village of Spring Valley.

The bin was transported to a recycling facility in Westchester County. A worker in Elmsford found the baby's body in a plastic bag on Nov. 12.

Psychiatric experts determined the defendant suffered brain damage as a child. They concluded she has a low IQ and is emotionally disturbed.

The DA says Guaman-Guaman will be sentenced on Sept. 4 to 15 years in prison. She faces mandatory deportation to Ecuador after her sentence is completed.
