Woman Dies After Boat Sinks in Long Island Sound

Nine people and a dog were rescued

The body of a Connecticut woman was found Monday morning, the day after the boat she was aboard hit a rock and sank in the Long Island Sound near Fishers Island, officials said.

Divers pulled the body of Mary Patenaude from the sunken vessel just before 8 a.m. Monday, according to the Coast Guard.

Coast Guard officials said they received a distress call around 2:30 p.m. Sunday that a 50-foot motor vessel named Priceless had struck Pulpit Rock and sank in the Long Island Sound with 10 people aboard. Nine people and a dog were rescued.

The Coast Guard told Newsday Patenaude was in the boat's cabin when it sank.

Coast Guard spokesman Erik Swanson says the vessel was based out of Westerly, R.I.

Fishers Island is at the eastern end of the Long Island Sound.
