Woman Jumps Into Freezing Central Park Lake to Save Dog

The partially frozen, man-made lake is surrounded by signs that warn of dangerous thin ice

A dog owner jumped into a freezing lake in Central Park to rescue her dog from drowning.

The New York Post reports the woman was walking five dogs on the northern edge of the park on Sunday morning when one of the pooches ran away and jumped into the Harlem Meer.

The partially frozen, man-made lake is surrounded by signs that warn of dangerous thin ice.

The woman jumped in after the dog and police used a life preserver to pull her and the animal out of the water.

The Fire Department said the woman was taken to St. Luke's Hospital to be treated for injuries that were not life-threatening.
