Woman Who Hit Cop With Car Charged With DWI: Police

A woman who struck an officer with her car and fled was charged with DWI Tuesday, police say.

Officer Dennis Hendrickson was standing on the shoulder of the Long Island Expressway west of exit 56 in Hauppauge assisting with traffic control following a crash when the woman sped towards him, according to authorities.

The officer signaled to the woman, identified as 52-year-old Theresa Finnin-Hunt, to slow down, but she did not, police say. Her 2012 Volkswagen then struck Hendrickson on his right arm as he was trying to move out of the way, according to police.

Finnin-Hunt allegedly kept driving away on the shoulder of the LIE, since westbound lanes had been closed due to the previous crash. She was stopped on the LIE North Service Road near Wicks Road in Brentwood shortly after and arrested on several charges, including driving while intoxicated. It was not immediately clear if she had an attorney.

Hendrickson was treated for non-life threatening injuries at Stony Brook University Hospital.
