Woman Accused of Performing Illegal Silicone Buttocks Injections

Claudia Miller is charged with receipt and use of a misbranded and adulterated substance.

A New York City woman is accused of illegally performing buttock-enhancement injections with a liquid silicone.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Brooklyn federal court, Claudia Miller claimed she was trained to perform the potentially dangerous treatments by a doctor in Colombia.

It said Miller charged thousands of dollars for the procedure.

The federal government has approved some forms of silicone for cosmetic use but not liquid silicone or gel for injection into the body.

Last February, a London tourist died in a Philadelphia hotel after receiving illegal silicone-enhancement injections.

Miller is charged with receipt and use of a misbranded and adulterated substance.

She was released on $150,000 bail. If convicted, she faces three years in prison.

Information about her lawyer wasn't immediately available.
