Wife Accused of Killing Hotel Fortune Hubby Seeks Free Lawyer

A Florida woman accused of having her husband killed for his fortune wants taxpayers to pay for her lawyer.

Narcy Novack of Fort Lauderdale suggested Wednesday in New York federal court that she be allowed to keep her private lawyer but that the government pay for him.

She is charged in the July 2009 beating death of Ben Novack Jr. at the Hilton in Rye Brook, N.Y. His father built the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach.

The government has frozen Narcy Novack's assets. She said she would like to keep her present attorney but cannot afford to pay him.

Judge Kenneth Karas said he would consider appointing her lawyer as a publicly paid attorney. He said it would be difficult to switch her case to a new lawyer.
