Wife Chokes Husband to Death With Lamp Cord: Cops

Authorities say a northern New Jersey woman is accused of killing her husband after a domestic dispute.

NJ.com reports authorities say Michelle Hurley, of Bayonne, choked her husband, 50-year-old David Hurley, with a chain link lamp cord during an argument on the couple's divorce proceedings.

Police said they found David Hurley unresponsive Sept. 28 with bodily fluids and blood coming from his neck.

Michelle Hurley was originally charged with aggravated assault but officials announced that a manslaughter charge was added following the results of an autopsy. It found that Hurley suffered fatal neck injuries. Officials ruled the manner of death a homicide.

Hurley's attorney says the "tragic" nature of the case doesn't mean her client is criminally culpable.
