Police in Syracuse say a pair of 21-year-old men were drunk when they took an ambulance for a joyride this past weekend.

Brandon Ray of College Park, Maryland and Kevin Mauro of Scarsdale in Westchester County were spotted speeding down a Syracuse street in an ambulance with its lights on and siren blaring, police said.

Officers say the two men swiped the vehicle from a parking lot at University Hospital Saturday night.

They later ditched the ambulance but officers were able to apprehend them with the help of witnesses. The vehicle was recovered.

Police have charged both men with grand larceny, with Ray also charged with driving while intoxicated.
