Well-Armed Shoplifter Busted on Long Island: Police

A man nabbed for shoplifting ammunition at a Walmart on Long Island was found to be carrying a knife and handgun, police said Sunday.

Nicholas Kieltyka, of Kings Park, was spotted removing and concealing ammunition Saturday at the store on Route 88 in Riverhead, investigators said.

After he was taken into custody, he was searched and police say they found he was carrying a switchblade, a loaded .40-caliber handgun and an additional magazine with .40-caliber rounds. An unauthorized assault rifle with high capacity magazines was found in his car, police said.

Kieltyka faces several charges, including criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm, Riverhead police said. He was remanded to Suffolk County Jail in lieu of $300,000 bail.

It wasn't clear if he had a lawyer.
