Strong Storm Eyes Parts of Jersey Shore Friday; Rain Won't Be as Widespread as Initially Thought

It could be a dreary few days.

Storm Team 4 says there's a chance of thunderstorms and showers for a large swath of the tri-state area through Sunday as muggy weather with highs in the 80s returns to the region following a brief respite from the heat.

Forecasters had initially projected rain for virtually the entire tri-state area, but the models shifted a bit, keeping the bulk of the storm further to the south and east of the city. The heaviest rain is expected to move in late Friday, and the Jersey Shore, particularly Ocean County, will likely bear the brunt of it. A flash flood watch is in effect for the county through early Saturday afternoon.

The weekend likely starts off cool, breezy and soggy on Saturday, but any lingering showers are expected to taper off by the afternoon. Most spots will see less than an inch of rain, but totals could near or top 2 inches further south. The air will feel much cooler, with highs only expected to reach the mid to high 70s.

Sunday is expected to be breezy with mostly cloudy skies and high temperatures near 80 degrees. The start to the workweek appears dry, with temps in the 80s and little chance of rain or storms before Thursday.
