Gusty Thunderstorms, Lightning Pound Tri-State After Unseasonably Warm Friday

A line of gusty thunderstorms moved over the tri-state area late Friday afternoon, pounding the area with lightning and heavy rains to cap off a day of spiking temperatures that saw the mercury rise to the high 70s in much of the region, according to Storm Team 4.

The storms approached the city as the evening rush got underway, casting skies over with a thick film of rain as thunder rumbled. Gusty winds and small hail are possible with this storm system, and the National Weather Service has issued watches and warnings for much of the region.

Lingering rain had mostly cleared out by 9 p.m., and Storm Team 4 says a spectacular weekend is on the way.

Temperatures drop a bit Saturday, when highs are expected to be in the mid-60s under mostly sunny skies. They rebound into the 70s Sunday, again under sunny skies, according to Storm Team 4.

Columbus Day is expected to be sunny and delightful with highs around 75 degrees.
