Hotter Friday, With Thunderstorms Possible

Showers and thunderstorms are expected to push through the area late today and tonight

Friday will be the hottest day for a while, with high temperatures in the 80s and even 90s in some parts.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected to push through the area late today and tonight. While some of the storms could be on the strong-side, widespread severe weather is not likely. The best chance for thunderstorms will be from 5 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Saturday. Brief heavy downpours and gusty winds are possible.

The weekend's forecast has a lot of uncertainty in it, though one sure bet is that temperatures will be cooler with highs mainly in the 70s. New York City and the coast will be right on the fringe of showers that will hug the coast Saturday evening through Sunday morning. As of now, it appears the Hudson Valley and Northwest New Jersey will see the nicest weekend weather, while areas along Long Island and the Jersey Shore will see more clouds, and possibly showers.

Expect a beautiful string of days next week, with plenty of sunshine and highs in the lower 80s.

Below are your forecasts into next week.

TONIGHT: Showers likely.
LOW: 69

TOMORROW: Morning showers, then mostly cloudy. (showers may linger longer—stay tuned)
HIGH: 77

SUNDAY: Clouds, limited sun. Possible morning shower along the coast.
HIGH: 78

MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY: Partly to mostly sunny.
HIGH: 80-85
