Wayne Water Main Break Expected to Clog Evening Commute

The rush hour in Wayne and surrounding towns will be snarled because of a water main break on Hamburg Turnpike

A water main break in Wayne is expected to snarl the evening commute for drivers in Wayne and spill over into other parts of North Jersey.

A construction crew working on a new jug handle exit for the intersection of Hamburg Turnpike and Pompton Road accidentally broke the main, Wayne police said.  Hamburg Turnpike is closed from Church Lane to Hinchman Avenue while crews clean up the mess.

The traffic problems are compounded due to the closure of nearby Valley Road, police said. Half of Valley Road has been closed due to unrelated road pavement project from Hamburg Turnpike to Ratzer Road.

The police department recommends that commuters stay far away from that area if possible. The road would remain closed until it no longer presents an “unsafe condition," police said.
