Walmart Evacuated on Long Island When Toy Wrapped in Wires Found in Store: Police

A Walmart store on Long Island was evacuated as police responded to a report of a suspicious package Tuesday evening.

The store on Route 347 in East Setauket was evacuated at about 5 p.m. Suffolk police said. Someone had left a small plastic toy with wires wrapped around the package and a note attached.

People who were inside the store said on social media they were told to leave their items and exit the store immediately.

"No explanation given to customers or employees by police ... just leave your stuff where it is and evacuate immediately," one woman wrote on Facebook

Emergency Service officers determined the toy was not an explosive device, but police did not immediately offer further information, including what the note said.

The store has been reopened.
