A new poll gives New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie high marks for holding the line on spending.
The Fairleigh Dickinson/PublicMind poll out Tuesday has Christie's overall job approval rating at 51 percent.
That's higher than it was in March when he laid out a budget that cut school aid, suspended property tax rebates and didn't make a public workers' pension fund contribution.
Thirty-seven percent disapprove of the job the Republican governor is doing.
Just after his budget speech, 43 percent approved of his handling of the job; 32 percent disapproved.
The telephone poll of 831 registered voters was conducted Oct. 4-10 and has a sampling error margin of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
