Alleged Vada Shooters Indicted on Attempted Murder Charges

The five young men who were arrested in connection to the shooting of 15-year-old Vada Vasquez have been indicted on charges of attempted murder, the Bronx District Attorney’s office announced late Friday.

A grand jury charged defendants Dwayne Taylor, 23, Cleve Smith, 20, Clivie Smith, 19, Rohan Francis, 18 and Carvette Gentles, 16, each with two counts of attempted murder in the second degree, two counts of assault, two counts of gang assault and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

The attempted murder and assault charges carry a maximum penalty of up to 25 years in prison each.

The group of young men were allegedly trying to kill Tyrone Creighton, 19, in the shooting, officials said. He was wounded in the stomach.

Vasquez, who was just walking home from school was shot in the head, but has since made a miraculous recovery and recently left Lincoln Hospital for a rehab center -- and spoke her first word since the incident, which was "Mom."
