VIDEO: Woman's Rib Broken in Brutal Elevator Robbery

Man got away with victim's cell phone, jewelry and cash

Police are asking for the public's help in identifying a suspect in the brutal assault and robbery of a woman in an elevator in a Bronx apartment building Wednesday.

The incident happened just before 6 a.m. inside 140 Donizzetti Place, in Co-op City in the Bronx.

Police said a man was inside an elevator when a 55-year-old woman entered.

The man punched the woman repeatedly, and when the elevator stopped on the fourth floor, forced her to the stairwell where he continued to punch her in the face and head, police said.

The suspect fled with the victim's cell phone, jewelry and money, according to police. The victim was taken to Einstein Hospital, where she was treated and released with cuts to her face and a broken rib.

Police released surveillance video of the suspect Thursday. He was last seen wearing a blue jean jacket, blue jeans and a gray hat.
