Upstate New York Teen Set Freight Car in Motion, Causing Train Station Crash: Police

Police say a 13-year-old boy playing on a freight car caused it to break loose, setting off a chain-reaction accident that injured a motorist and damaged an antique locomotive and a rail station in upstate New York.

Officials tell Time Warner Cable News that the teen said he was on the New York, Susquehanna and Western freight car last Tuesday evening when he accidentally set it in motion. The rail car rolled for more than a mile before hitting a car and bumping an old steam engine into Utica's Union Station.

A 23-year-old man suffered a cut to his wrist when the rail car hit his vehicle.

No one was in the part of the building that was hit.

Police say the boy could face charges.

Contractors have begun work repairing the damaged station.
