No one was walking in a winter wonderland Saturday as temperatures climbed to record highs in several areas of the Tri-State Region,
The town of Islip on Long Island appeared to be the area's hotspot with a record-setting 68 degrees, according to Storm Team 4.
Record highs were also set at LaGuardia Airport, where the thermometer topped out at 66 degrees, JFK Airport at 64 degrees and Bridgeport, Connecticut, at 61 degrees.
The toasty temperatures were expected to fade overnight as a slight cold front approaches the metro region, with an expected low of 54 degrees. But the warm weather is expected to return Sunday, with a high of 63 in New York City, and Monday, with a high of 62.
Sunday evening should stay warm, and it should be the peak night for the stunning Geminid Meteor Shower. But those wanting to catch a glimpse of the light show may be out of luck; it's expected to be a cloudy night.
Monday is expected to be breezy and mild with a high of 62 and showers likely late in the day. Tuesday through Thursday the highs should be in the mid to upper 50s.
