Driver in Deadly Union Square Hit-Run Arrested: Police

Police say they've arrested the suspect in a hit-and-run near Union Square Sunday that killed a 33-year-old man who lived right across the street.

Macgyver Beltran, 25, of East New York, Brooklyn, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, police said.

It's not clear if he has an attorney.

Police said Doohee Cho was right outside his home early Sunday, crossing Fifth Avenue between East 15th and East 16th streets, when he was hit by a white sedan that then fled.

Friends and family told NBC 4 New York that Cho lived nearby and may have been crossing the street to get home when he was hit.

First responders, called to the scene at around 3:15 a.m. by a 911 call, found him with severe head trauma.

Cho was taken to Bellevue Hospital Center, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His brother said he attended Rutgers College in New Brunswick and worked for GE Capital.
