UConn Students Forced to Evacuate Burning Bus

A charter bus taking University of Connecticut students on an outing to Boston on Saturday caught fire on a ramp to the Massachusetts Turnpike, but no one was injured.

The bus was one of four headed for a harbor cruise organized by a student group.

The fire happened on the on-ramp from Interstate 84 onto Interstate 90 eastbound in Sturbridge, closing two lanes, the Massachusetts State Police said. The scene was cleared around 3:30 p.m.

The cause of the fire hasn't been determined, investigators said.

The university was unable to provide another bus for the 52 students who evacuated the burning bus, a spokesperson said. Those students were brought back to UConn on mini buses and will get refunds for the cruise.
