Ray Vega, 18, and Carmen Rivera-Gotay, 17, died

Two teenagers died early Saturday morning in a car crash on Walt Whitman Road in Melville, according to police.

Ray Vega, 18, was driving at a high speed when he tried to pass a car that his brother, Kevin, was driving, police said. Vega lost control of his car and struck a curb and then a tree, trapping him and his passenger, Carmen Rivera-Gotay, 17, in the vehicle, officials said.

Authorities said Vega was pronounced dead at the scene and Rivera-Gotay died after being taken to Plainview Hospital-North Shore hospital.
