Teenage identical twins have made an indelible academic impression at their Long Island high school.

Locust Valley High School seniors Nicholas and Matt Rizzo have the top two highest grade-point averages in their Nassau County graduating class. Nick earned the spot as valedictorian while Matt will be named salutatorian.

School officials say it's the first time in decades -- possibly in history -- that twins have graduated at the top of the class, according to Newsday.

“Our friends have been saying since sophomore year that we are going to be ‘val’ and ‘sal,’ ” Nicholas Rizzo told the paper. “I never believed it.”

The brothers say they have always supported one another inside the classroom; Nicholas Rizzo has a passion for physics, while Matthew Rizzo is into history, Newsday reports. Both teens enjoy online strategy games and bowling when they're not hitting the books. They also co-captain the cross country team.

The Rizzo twins thank their parents for pushing them to achieve. Both boys have college offers from different states, so this may be their last school year together.

The twins say they are considering giving a combined speech at graduation. The duo will walk across the stage in June.
