Tugboat Causes Oil Spill in New York Harbor: Coast Guard

A tugboat rammed a fuel terminal pier near Bayonne, N.J., causing an oil spill into the Upper Bay of New York Harbor, U.S. Coast Guard officials said Sunday.

The spill occurred Saturday night near the International-Matex Tank Terminal in Bayonne.

It was unclear how much oil spilled into the water. The source of the spill has been contained, the Coast Guard said. The oil in the water is surrounded by a containment boom.

A Coast Guard Pollution Response Team is investigating the accident.

There were no injuries or wildlife casualties, the Coast Guard said.
