Amtrak is trying to determine what caused a transformer fire that halted trains between New York City and Philadelphia Tuesday.

The fire in New Brunswick, N.J., caused a loss of power in overhead lines, forcing Amtrak and New Jersey Transit to suspend service along the busy Northeast Corridor.

NJ Transit managed to first restore Midtown Direct and North Jersey Coast Line service into and out of Manhattan.

Amtrak and NJ Transit trains started rolling between New York City and Trenton by 6:46 a.m.

    Riders faced residual delays.
