Police fired at a man who prosecutors say tried to run over an officer with his car Wednesday afternoon.
Toms River police opened fire on the suspect at about 4:15 p.m. while investigating reports of drug activity, prosecutors say.
The man was sitting in a parked car and allegedly tried to hit officers on foot when they approached the vehicle. After the police started shooting, he allegedly got out of the car and ran away.
Law enforcement sources told NBC10 in Philadelphia that the suspect was arrested a few hours after the shooting. He was wanted on charges including attempted murder, eluding police and possession of a dangerous substance with intent to distribute.
