Homeless Man Arrested in Deadly Times Square Deli Stabbing: Police

Police say a homeless man has been arrested in connection with the deadly stabbing of a 36-year-old man in a Times Square deli last week.

Arturo Lopez was arrested Thursday and charged with second-degree murder in the Jan. 20 stabbing at New Star Cafe on 40th Street.

The victim was found on a street corner with two stab wounds to the chest at about 9:30 p.m., police said.

Officials said the man was stabbed at the deli on Seventh Avenue and ran around the corner before collapsing on West 40th Street.

Witnesses at the scene said the victim was eating in the back of the New Star Cafe when a fight broke out. At some point, the man made his way toward the front of the business, when he was stabbed.

Witnesses say he then staggered out of the cafe and collapsed.

It wasn't clear if Lopez has retained an attorney.
