Bomb Dog Triggers Suspicious Package Investigation in Times Square: NYPD

The popular public space was deemed safe at about 4 p.m.

There was a brief security scare in Times Square Monday afternoon after a bomb-sniffing dog indicated a suspicious package, police said.

The bomb-detection dog for a private company indicated that there was something suspicious at West 45th Street and Broadway at about 3 p.m., according to the NYPD.

Police checked the area and didn't find any threats. The area was cleared at about 4 p.m.

It's not clear what item triggered the response.

Social media users posted photos of the increased police presence in the Crossroads of the World.

"Something is going on on our st it is all blocked off," @Tammy.Wilhelm posted to her Instagram, along with a photo of a police cruiser blocking off streets.

A Twitter user, RookieCityCop, posted "Made it to Times Square. Police everywhere. Apparently there is a report of a bomb. Yeah I'm headed away from here now."

No one was hurt during the security scare.
