Three Rescued from Long Beach Waters

    (Published Friday, June 25, 2010)

Three people who started floundering in the water off Long Beach, Long Island are alive tonight -- thanks to the efforts of some heroic surfers who came to their rescue.

The three were swimming near Franklin Boulevard Friday afternoon when they started yelling for help, witnesses said.

Lifeguards and beachgoers were able to bring them to shore, but one swimmer had to be taken to the hospital.

Earlier this week, a 12-year-old girl on a school trip drowned on the same beach.
