Third Term No Charm for Bloomberg

New Yorkers in the outer boroughs are not as fond of Mayor Bloomberg as they used to be, according to a NY1-Marist Poll released Thursday.

The mayor’s approval rating dropped by 14 percent among registered voters in Queens and Staten Island since a previous Marist survey in February.

In the latest poll, 35 percent of voters in those areas think Bloomberg is either doing an excellent or job in office compared with 49 percent who thought the same in early February. His approval rating has stayed the same in Brooklyn and the Bronx, 35 percent and 36 percent respectively.

Overall the mayor’s job approval rating stands at 40 percent citywide, which is down 4 percent from February’s poll.

The majority of voters polled also think the city is in need of new leadership, with 53 percent saying the city is moving in the wrong direction while only 42 percent think it’s on the right track.

This is a complete turnaround from last month when 52 percent said the city was moving in the right direction and 44 percent thought it was moving in the wrong direction.

The only stronghold Bloomberg has on public opinion is regarding his legacy. The poll showed that 39 percent of New Yorkers were unwavering on their belief that they will remember the mayor positively.
