These Are the Drunkest Metros in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut

Results showed the drunkest city in the nation to be Dubuque, Iowa, where 30.8 percent of adults were considered binge or heavy drinkers

What do Watertown-Fort Drum, Trenton and Norwich-New London all have in common? They're the drunkest metropolitan areas in their respective state, according to a new report.

Analysis and news company 24/7 Wall Street found in a report published on Thursday that the three metros were the booziest in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

24/7 Wall St. used Centers for Disease Control data to find the heaviest drinking town in each state. The CDC defines ‘binge drinking’ as consuming four or more drinks for women and five or more drinks for men in a single sitting. ‘Heavy drinking’ is classified by the CDC as 15 drinks a week for men and eight drinks a week for women.

In Watertown-Fort Drum, 21.4 percent of adults admitted to drinking heavily or binging, nearly 5 percentage points above the statewide average. The report also found about 28.6 percent of all driving fatalities involved alcohol in the upstate New York metro.

About 18 percent of Trentonians admitted to heavy or binge drinking, meanwhile. That's nearly 1 point higher than the statewide percentage.

In Norwich and New London, nearly 20 percent of adults admitted to drinking heavily or binging, and 36 percent of fatal accidents involved alcohol.

None of those cities approach the drunkest city in America, however. In Appleton, Wisconsin, leads the nation with 26.8 percent of adults reporting excessive drinking.
