Teen Shot to Death on Long Island Street as Crowd Runs for Cover

Multiple people were in the street at the time of the shooting and ran off and ducked behind cars when gunfire erupted

A teenager shot on the street in front of a house on Long Island Wednesday night has died, and police are looking for the gunman, authorities say.

Police say the victim was shot in front of a home on Darmouth Street in Hempstead around 10 p.m. A relative said he was 17.

Multiple people were in the street at the time of the shooting and ran off and ducked behind cars when gunfire erupted, officials say.

There was no altercation, and no words were exchanged prior to the gunfire. Police say the victim did not live at the house he was standing outside when he was shot.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

A van in front of the house was towed away as possible evidence in the investigation.

No arrests have been made.
