Donors Raise Money for Family Who Lost Their Daughter

Donors have raised more than $11,000 for the family of a 13-year-old New York girl who was killed in an upstate crash over the weekend.

Larisa Karassik, an eighth grader from New City, died in the crash. The Rockland County teen will be laid to rest Thursday.

The Journal News says the fund was created to help Larisa Karassik's family.

Officials say counselors and psychologists will be on hand Tuesday as her classmates return to school in Clarkstown following the holiday weekend.

Karassik played softball and basketball and was to start high school this fall.

State police say the crash happened Saturday when Heath Drouin ran a stop sign and hit a vehicle driven by Larisa's father near Cooperstown. Drouin died at the scene. Larisa died at a hospital. Her father, 50-year-old Bruce Karassik, suffered a broken ankle and head injury.
