Long Island Teen Fatally Stabbed in Dispute: Police

A Long Island teenager riding with a friend in a car was fatally stabbed after he and the driver got into an argument with a group of people standing on a street corner Friday evening, police said. 

Trevor Bender, 17, was a passenger in a car that got stuck in traffic on Mastic Road in Mastic shortly after 5 p.m., police said. He and the 18-year-old driver got into a verbal dispute with a group of people standing at the corner of Moriches Avenue, who they knew. 

Bender and the driver got out of the car and approached the group, and during the dispute, a suspect stabbed Bender in the chest and then fled, police said. 

Bender was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue, where he was pronounced dead.
