Funeral Held for 2 Teen Cousins Who Drowned in Bronx River

A joint funeral service was held for two 13-year-old cousins who drowned last week after going swimming in the Bronx River.

A viewing was held Friday afternoon at the Bridges Community Church for Wellington Gavin and Erickson Villa, followed by the funeral.

Mourners who gathered to remember the two said they were nice boys.

"They were nice kids, not malicious,” said Carmen Padilla, a teacher who knew them. “You never heard a curse out of their mouth. Well-behaved, they would help you on anything."

Donations are being sought to help send their bodies to the Dominican Republic.

Erickson's parents, Robinson and Eve Villa, and Wellington's mother, Wendy Villa, have expressed gratitude for an outpouring of community support.
